Rocky IV

I had never seen Rocky IV until today. I am laughing at how political it is. Here is my interpretation of the classic:

It's the mid 1980's (which is always a fun flashback in fashion) and we are at the height of the Cold War. Rocky's friend, Apollo Creed is killed in a boxing match by a Soviet fighter. This Soviet fighter has been trained and conditioned by scientists and is almost inhuman. In order to defend the honor of his friend, Rocky challenges the Soviet to a fight. The conditions are that they must fight in Russia because the American people have been threatening the Soviets and they no longer feel safe in the US.
There is a large crowd at the fight. Even government and/or military Soviets are in attendance. At the beginning of the fight Rocky is getting booed. It seems as though his only fan in the crowd is Adrian (his wife). As the fight goes on the crowd starts cheering for Rocky. They are chanting his name. After the fight is over and Rocky has won, (I feel OK about ruining the ending because there is a 5th, so I figure you could guess. Plus, you've had 22 years to see it) he makes a victory speech. In the speech he says, "During this fight, I've seen a lot of changing, in the way you feel about me, and in the way I feel about you. In here, there were two guys killing each other, but I guess that's better than twenty million. I guess what I'm trying to say, is that if I can change, and you can change, everybody can change!" Even the government and/or military give a standing ovation.

I would like to thank Rocky Balboa for contributing to the end of the Cold War and for making all of the Russian's love him and the US. If only the history books would give credit where credit is due.

Another real highlight of the film was the robot. Rocky is so rich in 1985 that he could afford to give his brother-in-law a robot for his Birthday. His brother-in-law really just wanted a sports car (maybe like the Lamborghini Rocky drives). I'm sure that a sports car would have been a lot cheaper. Seriously, this may be the first robot appearance in a movie...ever. It's big news people. This appearance may classify the film as a sci-fi. If you have never seen this movie, do me a favor and watch it soon. It will not disappoint.
